Good plans. No big budget.
Free admission is a helpful starting point—not a promise that parking, food or every activity is included. These local options make it easier to put together a low-cost day.
01 / NATURE
Walk the Celery Bog trails.
West Lafayette lists the Celery Bog Nature Area as open dawn to dusk with no admission charge. Make the walk the main event: take binoculars if you have them, look for wetland wildlife and allow a little unhurried time.
Location: 1620 Lindberg Road, West Lafayette. Check the city’s site for nature-center hours and any access notices; the trails and the building need not share the same hours.
The Haan’s outdoor sculpture garden is free from dawn to dusk at 920 State Street in Lafayette. Its short garden path offers a different way to look at art without scheduling a full museum visit.
Current caution: the museum’s source page says its separate nature trail is closed for maintenance until further notice. Do not include that trail in your plan. Indoor museum admission and access are separate.
Tippecanoe County Public Library’s program pages include free learning and creative activities. Choose an individual event from the official calendar and check its age group, branch and registration instructions.
A library outing is an especially useful backup when the weather changes. Do not assume every branch has the same event or that a free program has unlimited spaces.
For example, spend a morning at Celery Bog, bring a snack and keep the rest of the day flexible. Or make the sculpture garden a short stop before meeting someone downtown.
Our events page links to more official calendars. Check the organizer before assuming a festival, performance or campus event is free; free programming and free admission are not the same thing.
